During a short press conference both the members of the Council and of the Parliament exposed the results of their discussions at the end of the first exhausting day of debate.
"The European Union is founded on severity and on freedom - stated the EPP deputy - which are not contradictory how it could seem. We believe that the creation of an international database and the raise of European funds are necessary in order to manage cross-border healthcare question in Europe".
The proposal of a common European database is shared also by the Liberal Democratic party, which, however, pretends clarification about reimbursements, in agreement with the Socialists&Democratics. Furthermore, the Socialist&Democratics argued that there shouldn't be the need of any authorization in order to be provides with healthcare services if the patient falls ill abroad, while they think that European funds should cover both the travel and the accommodation costs in the case of a person moving abroad for healthcare reasons.
The European Conservative party was pretty satisfied with the directive, that they find to have been well outlined, but they suggested to introduce a restrictive clause in order to control cross-border healthcare and avoid the its degeneration into health-tourism. A regulation is demanded even by the EFFT.
On the other hand, the GUE would prefer to preserve and grant each country health system and,so, was not satisfied at all with the results of the discussions.
Finally, the Greens declared that, on their point of view, reimbursements are not sufficient for people who can not afford and anticipate the costs and they suggest to furnish them with previous funds in order to get their cures.
During the same day, the Council debated about the future enter of Serbia in the European Union and all the Ministers agree that the destiny of this country definitely lies on EU,but,on the other hand it has to collaborate in the struggle against corruption and, furthermore,to invest in infrastructure projects.
